Did no one else think that the finale felt really rushed? Like you could say it’s because it didn’t get renewed for another series, but I feel the producers would’ve known that before the series got filmed, and even if they didn’t, the last two finales ended on a note which could’ve easily have been an end and were still dramatic finales. The other two finales had more of their own respective plot to wrap up (the series were more or less self-contained with respect to their plots, with the only plotline of relevance being that Aramis was the Dauphin’s father), and were better for it. There was less plot in this finale, it was mostly wrapped up last week, and it was simply a case of ending things with Grimaud and Marcheaux, so they spent more time being emotional, but without here actually being any major emotional drive behind the episode. The first finale had that amazing scene where they trick the Cardinal before the final shoot-out and the revelation of the pregnancy, the second finale was a very tense episode with trying to dismantle Rochefort’s manipulation, discredit him, and save the life of the Queen and everyone else – with this, it was sort of ‘oh guess we have to kind of finish things with Grimaud.’
